Teaching fishermen how to rescue a sea turtle!
This week, field lessons have been carried out at Ancona harbour to fishermen by CNR-IRBIM researchers regarding the procedures to apply in case of accidental capture of sea turtles.
On Friday morning, the fishermen of Ancona, who normally spend a few hours selling their catch onboard, were joined by CNR-IRBIM researchers. The purpose of the meeting was to inform them about the procedures to apply in the event of incidental capture of a sea turtle: they were taught, also by giving them adhesive flyers, the proper manners to do as first aid and the useful contacts to call in case of serious wounds of the animal. All the fishermen, mainly consisting of trawlers, were interested in the project and willing to cooperate in the next future.
