Extraordinary event - Turtle nest in the Pesaro area
Pesaro, turtle nest in Baia Flaminia.
The discovery on the beach by an ecological operator.
Pesaro, 31 July 2019 - Beautiful surprise on the free beach of Baia Flaminia. A large sea turtle of the Caretta caretta species approached the shoreline, dug a deep hole and laid its eggs there. An event defined by the experts as "extraordinary, which did not occur in the beaches of the Marche for a long time".
The discovery took place when it was still dark on the part of an ecological operator, who was cleaning up the shoreline.
The man spotted a large sea turtle moving away from the sand to conquer the sea, he approached and noticed the animal's footprints leading to a portion of loose sand. He immediately advised the Port Authority, which in turn called the San Bartolo Park Authority and the Cetacea Foundation of Riccione.
The experts made the first findings and gently removed the surface sand, until they found the presence of the eggs, which could be up to 40. So much emotion, but everything was immediately closed to avoid problems in the development of the animals. It will be necessary to wait at least 50 or 60 days to verify that the nesting has been successful.
Meanwhile, the Park Authority together with many volunteers and enthusiasts will guard the nest to avoid disturbances, given that the area is very busy and even the intrusiveness of the curious could compromise the birth of the small specimens, whose species is all now at risk of extinction.
