Asinara rescue center is planning for relocation

It is expected the relocation of the center once made the renovation of some prison structures.

Currently housed in the former 'Casa dei Fanalisti’' guest house in the village of Cala Reale and restored thanks to ERDF and Park funds, the rehabilitation center has been gradually growing since its first implementation in the locality of Fornelli thanks to the project funds Life 'Tartanet'. The Ente Parco planning is therefore supporting the continuity guaranteed by the current project LIFE12 NAT/IT/000937 'Tartalife', which constitutes the natural continuation of the previous Tartanet project.

The observatory of the sea will therefore have a larger and comfortable accommodation thanks to an investment of 2 million and 300 thousand euro made available by the Park and the Region of Sardinia for the recovery of the agricultural branch of Campu Perdu and Caserma Monda.

These buildings, built after World War II and used originally in criminal and agricultural colony, will become a multipurpose center dedicated not only to the care and recovery of marine animals but also to environmental education activities certified at regional level and for recreational activities sea like diving and sailing school.

The new premises made available to the Recovery Center of marine animals will have therefore more spacious and ergonomic environments designed following the ministerial guidelines for the management of all the operations of recovery of sea turtles. An additional logistic support will be provided by the creation of a guest house that will be dedicated to the users of the new activities in the structure.

The recovery and management of marine animals will further support following the renewed agreements between Park Authority and Sardinia Region within the regional network of the conservation of marine life. Thanks to these agreements the island of Asinara and its center have assumed over time a leading role in the area of Northern Sardinia and Corsica as regards the recovery of sea turtles and the management of nesting events as the accident at the platamona beach (north Sardinia) coast in September of 2014.
